This is another author who takes her creative writing to share a beautiful story. Looking into the life of a Afro-Latina girl born and raised in Harlem, Acevedo utilizes the young girl’s powerful path to poetry to let the world know who she is.

4: Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

Okay so I’ve read a few excerpts from this book and Hollis is on fire with her message! This is a read that makes you feel like you’re talking to one of your girlfriends. Hollis walks you through the mental power to not allow other’s perceptions of you define who you are.

5: Away by A. Erin Walker

I read this fiction book in two days. I could NOT put it down! Walker takes us on a journey of a 20-something starting a new life across the country and adapting to a new city. Her writing really paints the picture; feels like you’re watching a movie!

6: Leap Frog: The New Revolution for Women Entrepreneurs by Nathalie Molina Nino

This book is for the women out there who needs inspiration for making it happen in your business! Based on current reviews this book has been highly recommended for the modern aspiring entrepreneur.

7: The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin

First and foremost, I’d like to say that Mr. Baldwin is one of the greatest Black Authors in America- his work is truly inspiring. In honor of Black History Month, this is a current read of mine. Mr. Baldwin distributes personal essays during the time of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s.

8: We Tell Ourselves in Order to Live By Joan Didion

The title of this book pulled me right in! It is actually a collection of several nonfiction books in one, all written by Didion. I have been told her writing style is sure to pull you in- I’ll be studying more of her work.

9: Unstoppable Tenacity by Erica Stepteau

Stepteau is all about addressing and getting rid of emotional baggage of mindset of lack to live the life we deserve. She teaches her Queens the importance of digging deep within to embark on your own journey to greatness. This book is inspiring and challenges you stretch yourself in order to be ‘unstoppable’.

10: Americanah by Chimamada Ngozi Adichie

Many may know Adichie from being featured on Beyonce’s recent album, giving us a beautiful dialogue on the song Flawless. In this Novel, she shares an interesting perspective of race and identity of two Nigerians adapting to the cultures of the United States as well as the United Kingdom. From my own personal experience of international travel as a Black American, I am looking forward to similarities from experience and the novel.

11: Educated by Tara Westover

Im really excited about this read because Westover compels an insightful story of her life and how she managed to grow outside of her dysfunctional family upbringings. Based on what I have researched, this book many can relate to in terms of finding their way in life.
